Divorce is an emotional time in anyone’s life. Even though it may
be sad, it can also be filled with many happy and hopeful feelings. If
you are going through a divorce or considering
divorce during the beginning of the year, consider making your New Year’s
resolutions about the process. The New Year is about clean starts and
new beginnings. Focusing your resolutions about making your divorce the
start of a new chapter can help you through the difficult process and
fixed on a silver lining.
Here are three New Year’s resolutions to help you through your divorce:
Finish Your Divorce This Year - This divorce process can be long and stretched out, sometimes over the
years. Instead of expanding this stressful process out over a long period,
vow to keep it short and within 2017. You’ll be glad when it’s all done.
Don’t Bad-Mouth Your Ex - It may be difficult not to say terrible things about your ex and what they
put you through, especially if they are speaking poorly about you. It
is important to take the high road on this one, especially when it comes
to any children you share and social media. Your kids don’t need
to hear how their parents are fighting. Keep any ill-will you have to
private conversations with friends, off-line, and away from your children.
Forgiveness - Harboring bad feelings, like anger or resentment, is as damaging (if not
more so) to the person holding on to it. Being able to forgive your ex
for any wrong doings during your marriage is a huge step in the recovery
process after a divorce. More importantly, make sure you forgive yourself.
Your marriage failed, but it is okay. Forgive yourself for the role you
played in the end of your union, and if it blindsided you, forgive yourself
for not seeing the warning signs before the end.
It is never too late to set resolutions and goal to better yourself and
your life. Following these resolution ideas can help you let go of the
past and focus on a brighter future.
