Westlake Village Visitation Lawyer
Help with Custody, Parenting Time, & Visitation Orders
Before you terminate the marriage, you and your spouse must consider how the
divorce will affect your children. This includes establishing
child custody, support, and visitation.
How will the children be cared for once the dissolution is finalized? Who
will they live with? Where will they spend most of their time? Questions
like these must be answered in order to determine how visitation and custody
will play out.
An experienced family law attorney such as myself can help you establish
a parenting plan that includes stipulations on visitation. My office can
help you request a court order, respond to a request, modify an existing
order, or enforce an order that’s not being properly followed.
Types of Visitation Agreements in California
Also referred to as “time sharing,” visitation agreements provide
parents with an established plan for splitting the time they spend with
their children. As with all other matters involving children, the court
will always rule in favor of the visitation agreement believed to be in
the best interests of the children. Typically, visitation rights of a
parent will fall into one of the following categories:
Visitation by Schedule: Visitation schedules allow parents to plan out when they will see their
children, right down to the day and time. These schedules typically account
for holidays, vacations, and special occasions as well.
Reasonable Visitation: Reasonable visitation orders are more open-ended than visitation schedules.
Parents are usually left to work out the details of visitation on their
own. As such, parents must be amicable, communicative, and flexible if
a reasonable visitation order is to work.
Supervised Visitation: Supervised visitation is used to protect children whose safety and wellbeing
could be at risk without supervised visits. If one parent has a history
of violence, substance abuse, etc., he or she may be restricted to visits
where another adult, or even a professional agency, supervises.
At the Law Offices of Jeffrey S. Graff, I can help you with any of these
types of visitation orders. I also handle cases related to grandparent
visitation rights and third-party visitation rights.
